"This is John Pinelli, financial representative, talking to you today about the job description of an insurance agent. So typically, what an insurance agent would do during the course of a typical day would be they would come into their office or wherever they're working very early in the morning. They might have meetings if they're with a large insurance company. They might have meetings in the morning to discuss various topics, maybe how they're doing in their production numbers, new ideas, new things that are coming out, as well as just to kind of build good rapport within the office. Now, after they've done some meetings, they might go out and make a bunch of phone calls. Now, oftentimes, a new insurance agent will have to make a lot of cold calls to people that they don't know, which can be quite difficult. Especially, you know, starting out in this...in the business, you're going to have to make a lot of phone calls to book appointments. If you're making cold calls, you know, you might have to make 100 or more calls a day just to ensure that you are keeping a steady book of business and a steady inflow of potential customers coming in to you. Now, if you're following up with them, you may have come up with some sort of presentation, maybe some insurance solutions, et cetera, and so during second meetings, you might present that to them. And in addition to that, if the person decides to go with some of the insurance that you have proposed or suggested, you may have to fill out applications and kind of get the ball rolling with that. Oftentimes, underwriting, which is the process of the application being accepted or denied or approved, et cetera, that can take quite a bit of time, and there is sometimes some paperwork or proof of insurability that is required during that process. Now, when dealing with a claim, you want to be able to provide your insured -- your client -- the best possible advice and help aid them in the process because oftentimes, losing things like a home or a loved one or a car or something can be quite devastating to people. So helping aid them in this process and making it easy on them is something that's very important that...to do. So filling out forms, visiting the client, and helping ease along the process in filing a claim is very important as an insurance agent because you are the advocate for that individual -- for the client -- so it's important that they can rely on you and depend on the trusted relationship that you've built with them. So this has been John Pinelli, financial representative, talking with you today about the duties of an insurance agent."
