Hi I'm Rachel Yatuzis and I'm going to show you how to remove mildew and mildew stains from your hardwood floor. First of all you want to get rid of and make sure to kill all of the mildew. Normally you would get mildew you know, in your kitchen, any wet areas where you might have hardwood floors. They are so beautiful if you let them run throughout your house but when they are in a kitchen or maybe in a bathroom they tend to get mildew. Water drips on them. Wood is a very porous substance and it soaks up water easily and retains it so what you want to do first is grab a sponge and get it nice and soapy with soap and water and you want to rub and really work with whichever spot has got the mildew. After you have done this and you think that you have done everything you can with the soapy sponge you want to grab bleach and make a container of bleach water. Keep this out of reach of all your kids and pets. It is so dangerous but bleach is one of the only things that will kill mildew. So you want to spray this bleach water on to the mildew and let it stay there until this dries. This may leave a spot on your floor but it is going to kill the mildew and it is going to keep it from spreading so this is a very important step. After it's dry you may have to repeat the process with a soapy sponge in the bleach. Keep doing this until the mildew is gone. If you think you have done a good enough job and you are able to paint over the spot or refinish it without being able to see the mildew then do that. If not then you may sand and refinish that one place. The next time keep a towel there if it is a place that gets mildew a lot. So that's it. I'm Rachel Yatuzis and that is how you remove mildew and mildew stains from hardwood floors.
