Hi, I'm Tim Gipson, I'm going to talk to you about how to remove a ceramic tile. Now in this case we're going to be looking at a floor tile here, ceramic floor tile. So whether you're working on a wall, ceramic wall tile, or a ceramic floor tile, your principles are pretty much the same. First thing we need to do is we need to use a tool such as this which is a grout saw to remove all the grout which we've done here. Now you simply saw this back and forth to remove that grout all the way around. Now if you happen to have a tile that is broken and you're replacing it because it's broken, then you can use a hammer or a mallet and a cold chisel and go ahead and break it up and remove the rest of it. Now if you're just resetting a tile, it may have come loose, then we want to try and keep it intact and we want to be careful about around it. So what you want to do is you want to take a pry bar and put it down in between and you want to choose the heaviest so if it's a thin wall tile, you use a much lighter gauge pry bar so that you won't damage the tile. On this floor we use this heavier one, but what we want to do is work this down in and very gently almost like opening a can of paint, is you want to pry. You don't want too much pressure on the surrounding tile so you crack them and you don't want to put too much pressure on this. But once you work that up, then it should just release and pull up, particularly if it's a loose tile. Then what we can do is we can scrape off the back of that tile, scrape the floor, put some new adhesive or thin set in there and reset that tile. So I'm Tim Gipson with how to remove a ceramic tile.
