Hi, I'm Dr. Darren Adamson from Argos University. Today I want to talk to you about the types of alternative schools. Let's start with those schools between kindergarten, and senior year of high school. Those include magnet school, charter school, private school, some types of private schools as well, such as those that are sponsored by a religious organization. For instance, those that are sponsored perhaps by a college or university. The types of alternative schools, such as a charter school, really function within the district, but they function with a particular purpose in mind, or a particular area of focus. Such as a math, or science charter school. A magnet school is a very similar kind of thing, although all of the students that go to a magnet school, are focusing in on preparation for a particular career, such as, a creative arts school. Private schools of course run the full gamete as well. They're more like a traditional school, but they're funded in a different way, through tuition, or through some supportive organization. Alternative schools at the post secondary level, or in colleges, and universities include for the most part, public universities, that are funded by state and federal monies, and private universities, and colleges, that are funded either by some endowment, by some organization, or they're funded by tuition from the students. Alternative schools really do run the full gamete in terms of types of schools. I think it's very important for you as a learner, to determine what it is you want to learn as you look at alternative schools, and which one to select from. Choose the alternative school that really focuses on what you want to learn. Focuses in on the type of environment that you will learn the best in.
