Hi. I'm Amelia and I'm here to answer the question who invented the first hair straightener. The first hair straightener was actually invented in 1762 by C.J. Walker. And then later in 1905 Madam Walker used it and as a heat implement to really straighten hair and actually it was a hot comb. So it looks like a comb. And it was gold. And you would put them in ovens. Now a days you see them where they got the oven and you put your implements in and so they still have them but back in the day they would actually put this like on the stove top. Just like the old irons would be. And then in the 70's women started using their steam irons. Now probably around I would say the late 80's when the crimping iron came out someone said hey let's take the plates off the crimping iron and create the flat iron. So this has come a long way in over a couple of hundred years. So C.J. Walker in 1762 and then in 1905 Madam Walker and in the 70's an iron and now 2008 your good old flat iron.
