"Hi! I'm Kristen Bryda. I'm a dietetic intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and I'm here today to talk to you about the freshman 15. What should you drink during exercise? First of all, you want to stay hydrated. Try drinking eight 8 ounces of water each day. People often eat when they're really just thirsty. Unless you're working out in extremely hot conditions for long periods of time or you're a serious athlete, water will replenish all the fluids that you lost while sweating. While drinking high calorie sports drinks, you may be replenishing all the calories you just worked so hard to burn. Water works just fine. Replenish yourself with water and stay hydrated. College is a very exciting time of learning and meeting new people. Gaining weight should not be a source of stress for college students. The freshman 15 can be avoided with proper nutrition and regular exercise. If you have any other questions on this topic, nutrition, or exercise contact the registered dietitian on your campus."
