If you've ever left a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses on the dashboard on a hot day, you know that heat can bend them and cause them to lose their shape. However, you can use that to your advantage, if you want to shape them to better fit your face. In fact, if you don't heat them before you try to bend them, they could snap. This method works best for Maui Jim's metal-frame models, as plastic frames require more heat to manipulate and avoid cracking. Maui Jim frames range from lightweight plastic frames to flexible titanium.

Point a hairdryer on a high heat setting on the middle to ends of the temple legs---the parts that go over your ears. Do not heat the hinges or screws.

Gently bend the ear pieces while the temple legs are still warm. Push them in together so they can fit more snugly, or pull them out if you need them to be wider.

Touch the heated area with the back of your hand to check the temperature. If they are not too hot, put the glasses on to check the fit. If necessary, repeat the process until you get a proper fit.

Repeat the heating process with the nose bridge. Touch it first to test the temperature, then slip it onto your face to adjust the fit.

WARNING

Adjusting Maui Jim frames on your own can cause them to crack or snap, particularly plastic frames. For a less risky approach, consider letting an eyewear professional bend them for you, ideally in the store on the same day you purchase them.
