Series Summary

Reflexology is a homeopathic therapy that alleges that areas in the foot correspond to other areas and organs in the body. According to the therapy the reflexologist can massage the foot and stimulate the corresponding organs of the body and promote healing. Though there is no scientific evidence to verify this, many people leave the therapy very relaxed and significantly less stressed. If you have a serious medical illness it is always important to contact your doctor, but if you would like to learn reflexology techniques that you can use to relieve stress for yourself or people you know, get great tips from an expert in massage therapy.

In this free video series, our expert will guide you through a reflexology massage. She will demonstrate how to prepare the feet prior to the massage, and then explain how to massage certain parts of the foot that correspond with other organs. Our expert in massage therapy will go through a diagram of the foot, and explain the differences between right and left feet so that you can get started on reflexology massage.

Video Transcript

"Hi! I'm Nili Nathan. I'm here with my expert Anne Brashier, who is a certified licensed reflexologist. Hi, Anne. Hi! Today in this video series, we're going to be learning about reflexology and what to expect when you go to a reflexologist and you're going to be actually giving me a reflexology treatment. Yes. I can't wait. Reflexology deals with nerve endings in the feet and the hands, and we'll get to a full reflexology massage. Tell me a little bit about your background. Where did you study massage and reflexology? Well I got into massage and reflexology as a dancer and an athlete and I worked at the athletic department at my university, and studying basic Swedish and reflexology there. Then I took a full licensed massage therapy course at Alta College in Los Angeles, and I'm doing some continuing education with them just to keep current on new techniques and new practices in the field. I worked for about a year and a half with a chiropractor and really got into nerves and glands lymph systems. I currently work. I do free lance; I have a private practice, and I also have worked for about a year and a half at a small day spa in Manhattan beach. Wow! That day spa you were telling me, the one where you do reflexology on the outside on the patio. Yeah, it's nice. Next to the beach. Yeah, it's great. You get a view of the ocean. It's very relaxing, and it's also a really fun type of massage because you're able to talk with your massage therapist about what's going on and how it's helpful and how you, as a client, can increase the benefit by lifestyle, really simple lifestyle changes.
