"In this clip we're going to talk about patch cables. Patch cable is similar to a quarter inch cable because it has the same type of end, same type of plug. However, their role is to be very small. A quarter inch cable can be any length, thirty-two, forty-five feet long even. Whereas a patch cable, it's role is to be significantly shorter. Now you'll notice that it's still a quarter inch plug on the end here. But, it's very short. It's probably six inches long. Now, another example, this is slightly longer, but you notice that there's a right angle plug and a straight plug. They both work exactly the same. It's just for ease of use. Now let's see where they might be used. Traditionally you would need a patch cable for pedals. Now, the reason that they're so short is because you only have to go from one pedal to the next pedal and you don't want a bunch of cable flopping around. Now, the right angles are useful because they can go in very small distances. This one can fit in here and that one can fit in there. If it was a straight plug, see how much further they'd have to be apart."
