Three types of basketball courts are wood, blacktop and mesh. Learn about different types of court surfaces in this free basketball video.
Okay, next I would like to talk about proper courts. Right now we're standing on a black top or what they call a concrete basketball court. They have wooden courts which you see on TV in the NBA or college, which are the best. They also have--now they have mesh courts that give you a little bit more cushion. Just to talk about the three. Concrete is probably the worst court you can play on because it's bad on the knees. Playing on concrete or black top, it doesn't give like a wooden or mesh court, so what's happening when you're running and jumping, you're constantly jamming the joints in your knees and deteriorating your cartilage, so if you play on black top or concrete for a long, extended period of time or many years, you'll see you start having knee problems or knee injuries, tendonitis, etcetera, etcetera, so if you can, stay away from black top as far as competition. It's fine for just shooting around and practicing, but when it comes to running and being competitive, try to find a nice wooden indoor court, or a mesh court to play on. If you think about wooden courts, they act like springs for your legs. They give and they bend. So they're easy on the knees, on the back, and they're real good for your ankles as well. So, when you go to play competitively and practice hard, try to find an indoor wooden court, or mesh.
