This is Jim Toledano for Expert Village talking about bike nutrition. Every person who has done any kind of serious biking has learned the hard way, that you never get on a bike without having a good meal; good solid breakfast in the morning, something to eat, something in your system. Biking takes a lot of energy and you want to have energy stored up and you want to replenish it. There are various kinds of things to eat and to drink that are made with bikers in mind. The most important thing is what’s called electrolyte replacement. This bottle contains something called cytomax, which is a powder you mix with water. What it does is it replaces electrolytes in your system that you’re using. If you continue to replenish them during the ride, you’re much less likely to have cramping muscles and soreness when you get off your bike and back home. This is one made by another manufacturer, but they all do the same things. They give you a little energy and they replace the chemicals in your body that your body is using up during the effort that you’re putting into biking. During the ride you also want to eat something. This is a bar that has nutrients in it designed for people who are exercising hard. You want to have something like this with you and eat it, not when you’re starving to death but some point; a few hours into a longer ride so you can replenish the food that you used up by the energy you put into the biking. This is an energy gel; it’s pure energy. It’s something you use when you want to put an extra burst of energy, something like climbing hill. It’s mostly sugar; it gives you a nice jolt, but it’s not something that’s going to sustain you for a long period of time. After the ride, no matter what you’ve eaten or what you’ve drunk during the ride, you’re going to have used up chemicals in your body that are needed to help your muscles rejuvenate and keep you from having cramps and other kinds of pain. This is something called Endurox, which is designed to replenish the different kinds of chemicals in your system that you’ve used up on a ride.
