Hi I am Jason Gerardo at Gold Key Racket Club in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona on behalf of Expert Village. Now I want to talk to you about the racket speed off of the shoulders a little bit, combined. What is important to me as a player is that when I am getting ready to return serves I am watching the shoulders and I am also watching the racket. It is very very important to watch the racket, the positioning of the racket and the racket's speed. Now more advanced players will use a continental grip with their hand right on top of the grip right here. They have more of a variety in their serve. You see all of the pros using this grip right here. They can hit the spin out here with the same grip, that the slice serve, they can hit the kicker, at the top spin serve and they can also flatten it out. That's three different serves in one grip. Now not all players have this grip. You might get into some club level play which is a little bit higher and they don't have so much that continental grip. Now sometimes you see this and the racket comes back more flat so what are they going to do with this shot. They can't hit all those different spins now. They're going to start cutting underneath the ball, they're going to start pancaking it, maybe even coming over the top of it a little bit but their impact is most likely going to be a little bit lower. The ball is going to probably clear the net by that much and its going to stay low most likely. You really want to watch the racket positioning and the racket speed. If you see that racket coming back a little bit flat you know you are not going to be able to get much spin. If you see that racket coming through pretty fast, you are going to be able to see that spin coming earlier so embrace yourself and get ready to that return that way.
