Step with your outside foot first when returning a wide serve. Learn about returning wide serves in tennis from a professional instructor in this free sports video.
In this clip we are going to show you a little bit of the movement on a return of serve, and how you are going to be able to get more court, and how you are going to be able to cut off more angle. So, it is very, very important to treat, again, a return of serve like you did volley. It is the same type of movement. So, when the ball is, for example, going to the right side, the forehand side, watch my feet. My right foot is going to come out. So, I am going to come in, in my split step. Let us cross the ball. Then, I am out here. My first move is this. Ok. This is going to allow you to start initially going a little bit more wide to the ball to able to cover more court, and also be able to transition into the court a little bit easier. A lot of players will make the mistake of doing this. Locking this foot. Coming over here, and now you are going sideways, rather than forward. And, you are locking yourself up with your feet and your hips. So, very, very important again. Right here. Move up with the forehand. Step it out, and I can easily go into the court, be a little more fluid about it and cut off angles. So, let us watch Gustavo right here just do that with a live ball now. Right here, we are going to watch his right foot. Keep those feet out wide. There, stepped out first. Very nice move right there. Watch him go forward. Right. Now I am going to serve and we are going to show you, we are going to show Gustavo how he is moving to the ball, with a live ball, an actual tennis ball. Return the serve, and him moving up wide. See that? Right foot is coming out first. And now, he is able to go into the court. Even on that wide ball, I served it a little bit further wide, he was able to get to the ball a little bit easier if he did not, than if you were to do that. Right there, he is able to go forward. Very, very nicely turned. Out wide. Great. Going forward. Very good job. See that? Allows him to go forward. Cut off the angles. Making sure that he is going forward.
