Sometimes it's easier to lunge with the right foot to hit a forehand. Learn about forehands in open stances and covering the court in squash with this free video on squash drills.
Okay, a lot of times on your forehand, the game of squash is fast moving. And because we have a lot of strength in our upper body and our legs we can do it, I don't advise hitting much of an open stance in the backhand. There are exceptions, but in the forehand you can. So if you ever get a shot right here, and all you can do is reach forward with your right foot, you can see where if I had to go with this left foot under an intense pressure situation, it would be slow and weak. So there's times when you use your right foot. So there's times when I can drop, somebody hits a drop shot to me and it's easier for me to use my right foot. Okay, so it's a, it's a great shot to have in your arsenal but you want to practice a lot because where a lot of players break down is their movement is weak. So if you're going to use the open stance, practice, practice, practice. Practice lunging with the right foot. So you can do a drop shot drill where you hit this and then hit the ball. So it's a very, very good tool to have in the tool box of the game. I'm not a big fan of hitting an open stance on a lot of shots because I think you get much more power by having this foot here in front and hitting it. But there are a lot of times where it's very, very effective. The open stance is much more effective generally in the mid or the back court or it's much more necessary, but there is a purpose for it and a use for it. So when you watch your videos and you practice when you do your drills, work it in there and work on your stepping.
