Series Summary

The term aerobics, meaning "with air", came from Dr. Kenneth Cooper, of the San Antonio Air Force Hospital. He designated it as the name for the system of exercises he employed to prevent coronary artery disease. It is appropriate nomenclature given that the exercises are designed to condition the lungs to more effectively use oxygen and to strengthen the cardiovascular system. For those who choose to use it, aerobics is an important part of fighting heart disease and obesity.

One way to get a great aerobics exercise is step. With step equipment and instruction, you can loose weight and feel great. Let our fitness expert, Alice Monsaert, show you how to do some step exercises. She shows you how to warm up, and how to begin step exercises. So, what are you waiting for? With free exercise videos, you have no excuse. Learn how to do step exercises today!

Video Transcript

"Moving on the with the "L" step. And "L" step is a front approach and an end approach. So I start with my right lead coming off slightly to the side of the bench, and leading off the end of the bench, stepping back up and down. So if you look it traced and "L" pattern on the floor. Then the other side leading with the left. Step up, side, up and back. So then my "L" step goes the other way. Or the right way. So it moves off the ends of the bench from a front approach. It is eight counts. It moves from foot to foot. So there's never any tap down. Eight counts. Five, six, seven, eight. Again moving from the side, you can tap down, or I'm sorry tap up on the bench. Reach out or do a little karate punch or do a little kick to complete the "L" step from side to side."
