Learn how to remove and reinstall your new pump when repairing your windshield washing system from a car repair expert in this free car maintenance video.
Hi, my name is Nathan McCullough on behalf of Expert Village. In these clips we're going to talk about some of the possible problems with your windshield washer system and some hints and tips to get better performance out of it. In this clip we're going to talk about removal of the old washer pump grommet and reinstallation of our new grommet and washer pump. I have a pick here, it's going to slip down by the side and pop it out like so. Your new pump is going to come with a grommet already on it. This cannot be installed assembled like this. What you're going to have to do is remove the grommet, use a little twisting motion like so and then reinsert it into the reservoir. You want to make sure that the shoulder the grommet is seated all the way around against its mating surface of the reservoir. It's a good idea anytime you're dealing with grommets to apply a small amount of lubricant so that it will slide into place. I'm going to grab my WD-40. I'm going to spray it away from my camera; right there, that's plenty. Take it and insert it into the hole. It may take a decent amount of elbow grease to get it to seat fully and that is it right there. As you can see, these little tabs on the reservoir actually hold the pumping motor in place. That there is the proper method that you're going to use to install the grommet and your new pump. The same procedure will be used for the level sensor as well.
