Hi, I'm Tim Gipson and I'm going to talk to you about how to clean shag carpet. Now, the first thing shag carpet has a much deeper, deeper pile to it than your regular carpet. So for a periodic cleaning when we're vacuuming the one thing that we want to make sure that we check on our vacuum here is on this front setting, to make sure that it's set at the highest level. These have roller adjustments on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner which will set the height of the vacuum off the floor where you can vacuum bare floors all the way up to a real heavy shag. Now this particular shag is probably about a you know a medium high height, so if you get - if you're not getting really good cleaning, then you want to adjust this down a little bit. But the one thing is you don't want to adjust that too low and you want to be really careful because then the brush, the agitator brush that's on the bottom of that will actually start wearing on your shag carpet and could actually pull some of the fibers out. So that's something to be cautious about. Now if you have some spots that you need to clean as far as you know shag carpet can be shampooed or steam cleaned just like any other carpet. Now one thing that you want be careful of is that as you're cleaning shag carpet if you've got some spots that need to be pre-treated, what you want to do is you want to put a spot cleaner on here and then you want to use just soft cloths and you want to make sure you dab. With shag carpet because of all the strands and that they're taller you got to be really careful about running those - about rubbing on it or being too aggressive or using any kind of a brush on it as it really breaks down the fibers and they become frayed. And give you kind of a fuzzy look to your carpet. And the other thing to consider when you are steam cleaning is that you want to make sure that you're not real heavy on your water. So you may want to use a little quicker strokes and make sure that you go over it a couple more times to make sure that you pick up all the water in the carpet. And those are some basic tips and when you're considering cleaning your shag carpet. So I'm Tim Gipson and that's how to clean shag carpet.
