Hi, my name is Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to show you how to fix a laptop that won't turn on. Now fixing a laptop that won't come on is a little different than fixing a desktop that won't come on because the laptop has a lot more stringent power requirements that the desktop might. For example, if you look at this laptop here, one thing to check if your laptop won't turn on is first of all do you have any lights on your laptop while it's plugged in. Now I happen to have a power light here which is a charging light. If I were to unplug this that power light goes out which means that my laptop is no longer receiving power from the wall plug that I had plugged into it. As I plug that back in the light comes back on. So that's going to be one of the first things that you want to check. When you plug your laptop into the wall, are you getting power from the wall? Because that could indicate a problem with your power adapter as well. Now secondly, if the laptop still won't turn on go ahead and unplug it from the wall, close the laptop and turn it over and you will find on the back your battery. Now there's a little spring-loaded button here that controls access to the battery, it's of different sizes, but this is very general on most laptops, a little slider thing that you can pull to the side and that causes the battery to pop out just like this one just did. Now what you need to do is take that battery out, feel if it's warm or not, mine is warm because it's been charging. If you had yours plugged in and the battery wasn't warm chances are it's not charging. So unplug these, set these aside for a little while, give it an hour or two for all of the capacitors to discharge in the laptop, and take your battery and let's plug it back in. I'm going to line up these power prongs to where they go on the battery itself and all you do is just pop it back in, you'll hear a little snap and that's okay. So let's set the laptop back down. Now if you press the power button and you still don't get anything in the screen take your hand and put it on the back of the laptop, press the power button and feel if you're getting any kind of air coming out of the fan from the back of the laptop. If you are, chances are just your screen is having a problem and it's not displaying anything, it's only showing black. If you're not your laptop may actually have some issues that only the manufacturer can fix. My name is Dave Andrews, and I've just shown you how to fix a laptop that won't turn on.
