Overcooking food until it boils over is a common problem in the kitchen. A burn mark on a stainless steel hob should be tackled immediately after the cookware is removed and the hob surface is cooled. The burn mark will be more difficult to remove the longer it is left untreated. Abrasive cleaning compounds and scourers should be avoided when cleaning as these items will scratch the stainless steel surface. Remove all cookware items from the hob before tackling the burn mark.

Remove as much excess burnt food as possible. Pour hot water on the stain and wipe over with a nonabrasive cloth.

Mix 3 tsp baking soda with 1/4 cup of hot water. Mix until you produce a paste.

Dip a nonabrasive cloth into the baking soda mixture and wipe over the stain. The stain will lift after continuous wiping. Several cloths and additional baking soda paste may be required.
