Releasing oil, or form release oil, is a product used for coating concrete forms and moulds to ensure that the concrete does not stick irrevocably to them as it dries. There are different types of releasing oils available in the marketplace, but most of them are made up of chemicals and require much precaution during use. If you would rather avoid such products, you can try an alternative that is safe for both you and the environment.

Select an oil or blend of oils that is non-caustic and not soluble in water. Make sure that the oil does not contain any type of wax. Mineral oils and most cooking oils are good options.

Cover the concrete form or mould with a generous application of the oil using a paintbrush. Use a smaller brush to oil tighter areas. Keep the application as even as you can.
