Washing Instructions for Lined Crocs

Crocs are the odour-resistant boat shoes that stomped onto the fashion scene a few years ago. Original Crocs are made from closed-cell resin that can be damaged by certain cleansers and cleaning methods. You can, however, wash original Crocs and lined Crocs without damage by using gentle detergents and avoiding excessive heat. Some newer styles are made of leather, which normally requires only a gentle wiping; but even with lined leather Crocs, the liners can still be washed.

Pour 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent or one cap of delicate washing powder and 3 inches of cold water into the washbasin. Water 3 inches deep will be enough to cover most Crocs, but you can add more water if needed.

Remove the liners from the Crocs by flipping the heel of the liner up and over. Press your thumb against one of the rivets on the outside, and press against the rivet as you lift the liner straight out. This is similar to lifting a buttonhole over a button. Slide the liner loose from the rivet, then repeat on the other side.

Push the Crocs and liners into the soapy water. Wipe the Crocs with the soft cloth to wash dirt off the shoes. Rinse the shoes with cold water and set them aside to air-dry. Let the liners continue to soak for at least half an hour.

Rub the liners together to scrub dirt out of them; do not be too rough, to avoid damaging the liners. Rinse the clean liners with cold water. Squeeze the excess water out of the liners, and then drape the liners over a clothesline, shower rod, or towel bar to air-dry.

Slide the liners back into the toe of the Crocs. Fasten the liners over the rivets, being careful not to stretch out the liners. Finally, turn the heel area of the liners back over the heel of the Crocs.
