Emulsion paint, also known as acrylic or latex paint, is a common interior wall and ceiling paint. If emulsion paint is spilt or dripped onto clothing, it can usually be removed if the paint is still wet. If the paint has already dried, it may take several attempts to remove, or it may be impossible to remove.

Dab as much wet paint from the clothing article as possible using a rag or paper towel. It is important to dab and not rub, as rubbing can spread the paint.

Fill a sink or bucket with enough warm water to submerge the clothing item. Add 1 tablespoon of washing powder per gallon of water. Add the clothing item to the water and submerge for 1 hour.

Use a small, soft-bristled brush, such as a toothbrush, to brush away any remaining emulsion paint. If the stain or spot is still present, allow the item to soak overnight and brush away the stain in the morning.

Remove the clothing from the soaking treatment. Launder as normal, following the clothing care instructions.
