Now I'm going to build the steps or the stringers to put my tread and my rise on so we can get up to the deck we just built. So we take a board and we bring it out from where our first step is going to be up there, we level it up, find out where the last step is and that is our height. Level from the deck, 99 inches. So the height of the stairs is actually 6 to 8 inches. The regular rise is 7 inches. Seven into 60 you end up with 10 steps. With 10 steps your tread is what you walk on and it is usually 11 and 1/2 inches which is what a 2 X 12 is or 2 pieces of geo so your tread you walk on is 11 and 1/2 inches. Your rise is 7 inches so you just take your square, you set your square and you put it on there and you make your marks for cutting your stringer out.
