Since the 1970s, fastener manufacturers have been using chemical coatings to protect bolts from corrosion, the elements and wear and tear. Among the most popular coatings for bolts is Xylan. Xylan is a blend of chemicals and plastics which not only allow stud bolts to stand up over time, but also enables them to be coated in different colours.

Xylan-coated stud bolts can be coated in many colour schemes, according to manufacturer Sigma Fasteners. Among the colours listed are white, red, blue, black, green and dark yellow.

The use of coloured Xylan-coated stud bolts is part of consistent branding for the companies who use them. Sigma Fasteners explained that many of its customers use the colours to coordinate with corporate logos and identities.

Types of Xylan coating

There are four different types of Xylan coating, according to fastener company Unbrako. All of them provide the option of coloured stud bolts. Each type of coating provides different levels of temperature and corrosion protection. The different types are Xylan 1014, 1400, 1424 and 1514.
