Makeup to wear with a purple dress

Updated April 13, 2017

A purple dress is a refreshing change of pace from the little black dress for evening. The right make-up is key to wearing it well. You want to wear a balanced look with make-up that does not compete with the dress to draw attention in a positive way.

Your face should be a clean slate to showcase your features, especially the eyes. Use a tinted moisturiser and a pink sheer cream blush if you can get away with it. If you must, use concealer and foundation instead for a flawless look. Then lightly apply a powder blush in a combination of brown and pink in the hollows of your cheeks and sweep up towards your ears. Lightly dust a translucent face powder when you have finished applying all your make-up.

Begin with a lavender shadow all over your lids and creases. Use a pearl colour to highlight the inner eyes--the area around the tear ducts--and the area under the brows. Apply purple eyeliner to the inside rim of your eyes and a deep plum gel eyeliner along your upper and lower lashline. Join the outside edges and smudge to avoid harsh lines. Finish with an eyelash curler and mascara or fake lashes for extra glamour.

Prime first for soft lips. Use a neutral lip gloss in a colour that flatters your colouring. In this look your eyes are the focus and your lips are a foil.
