Tektronix products are considered an industry standard by many technicians and engineers, according Gary Barr of Concept Engineering. Some electronics professionals and students may use the 465 oscilloscope, although it has been discontinued as a product line. Tektronix still provides compatible replacement probes. Tektronix probes extend the functionality of classic oscilloscopes, like the 465, just as the original probes did. Adding the 1103 Probe Power Supply allows classic oscilloscopes to use probes requiring the capacities of later oscilloscopes.

Direct Probes

The P6105A provides a 100 Megahertz (MHz) frequency response in a modular probe. Modularity allows replacement of only the worn-out probe part, instead of the entire probe.

The P6101B provides a unity multiplication with 15MHz bandwidth. Measuring a maximum 300 volts with category I isolation, this probe provides a direct replacement for the original 465 1X probe.

Multiplying Probes

The P5100 responds from DC to 250MHz at 1000V maximum. With category III protection (2500V DC + peak AC) and 100X multiplication with readout coding, it is compliant with UL3111-1, EN61010-1, IEC61010-2-031, CSA1010.1, and CSA1010.2.031 code standards. With compensation from 7-30 pF (pico farads), this probe provides both safety and flexibility.

The P6015A, a high voltage (20kV DC continuous, 40kV peak at 100ms pulse width), high bandwidth (DC to 75MHz) probe using a silicone dielectric, provides optional 1000X multiplication readout coding. The wide compensation range (7-49pF of capacitance) and heavy-duty versatile ground lead with alligator clip make it ideal for many applications, including switch mode power supplies and motor control.

High Voltage Probes

The P5200, with bandwidth to 100MHz, a maximum of 5,600 differential voltage (DC + peak AC) and up to 2,200V common mode (RMS) voltage, extends the 465 well beyond its original specifications.

High Impedance Probles

High impedance probes require the 1103 Power Probe for power.

The P6205 with its DC to 750MHz response, coupled with a 2 pF input capacitive loading and 1mΩ (megaohm) input resistance, also extends the capabilities of the 465 beyond its original design specifications. With this probe, the 465 functions to measure high-speed digital systems design including ECL, GaAs, MOS, CMOS, FastCMOS, BiCMOS and TTL.

The P6243 extends the 465 oscilloscipe even further with its 1GHz Bandwidth (probe only), maximum 1 pF input capacitance, and 1mΩ input resistance. This probe enables the 465 to be used in high-speed digital systems, component design and characterisation, manufacturing engineering and testing, and educational research.
