Halloween provides adults the freedom to dress up in any sort of costume they want. There are certain types of adult Halloween costumes that are quicker to put together than others. Dressing up as a farmer, for example, requires limited effort other than collecting the appropriate clothing and adding a few extra touches. To make the Halloween costume more original, there are many different types of farmer costumes you can consider creating.

Traditional American Farmer Costume

Donning a pair of baggy coveralls, a plaid shirt and rubber or work boots is the basis for a traditional American farmer costume. To complete the outfit, add a wide-brimmed straw hat and hold a plastic shovel or pitchfork, which can be purchased at a local costume shop. Gluing a little hay or straw and large, colourful patches on the coveralls adds a differentiated, personal touch.

English Gentleman Farmer Costume

There is a very unique look for a gentleman English farmer. Wearing a pair of baggy trousers, a white work shirt, and a tank top covered by a blazer is a good start. These can be purchased at a local thrift store. The trousers should be tucked into a pair of tall rubber boots. Adding a flat cap and a long handkerchief tied around the neck makes this costume different from an American farmer costume. For authenticity, chomping on a pipe is distinctly English.

Female Farmer Costume

A farmer costume can be more feminine with a pair of cut-off denim shorts, a tank top and a plaid shirt tied at the midriff rather than tucked into the shorts. Adding two side pigtails with a few pieces of straw sticking out of them and face freckles applied with an eyebrow pencil completes the feminine look.

Mexican Farmer Costume

A Mexican farmer is known as an "agricultor Mexicano" in Spanish. Wearing a poncho, a sombrero and leather sandals will cause the costume to stand out. Mexican farmers tend to ride donkeys in their work so holding a blow-up donkey is a nice touch to complete the outfit.
