The 21st birthday is one of the major birthday milestones, signalling the arrival of adulthood. Not only can 21-year-olds legally drink, they can also get into music venues, clubs and other places that serve alcohol and often restrict admittance to younger folks. Give the 21-year-old in your life a gift that will help her enjoy her newfound freedom.

A Night Out

Turning 21 not only marks the age when the birthday boy can legally drink, but the age when he can go to 21-and-over venues. Take your friend out to celebrate at your favourite bar for his 21st birthday. Gather all his friends together for the party, and have everyone buy him a drink, which doesn't have to be alcoholic, or honour him with a toast if he doesn't plan to drink. If he is a music fan, take him to see a band he likes at a 21-and-over venue. If he prefers sports, take him to a game that includes his favourite team. He will enjoy being able to order drinks for the first time as he watches the contest. Always make sure to drink responsibly.

Drinking Gear

At 21, your friend or relative will probably enjoy being able to drink at home on occasion. Buy her some gear to get her started. A bottle of good whiskey, wine, vodka or other liquor or a six-pack of a local beer is something she will enjoy at her leisure. Buy a variety pack, such as a selection of mini bottles or a Scotch sampler. A bar set with shakers, jiggers, stirs and other common cocktail equipment will let her get to start creating her own cocktails. Buy her an attractive beer stein, set of tumblers, wine glasses or other vessels for consuming her drink of choice.

Bar Games

Being able to hang out at the bar, your friend will have more opportunities to enjoy bar games. If your friend enjoys playing pool, buy him a nice pool cue along with chalk, extra tips and other accessories. Or buy your friend a set of darts or a dart board for some pub-style recreation. If your friend enjoys poker, buy him a poker set with chips and cards. A guide to poker or card games in general will help him to polish his game before he hits the tables.
