Mini voice recorders are used for a variety of purposes --- as part of a prank or gag gift, in photo frames, and even in snack bowls. They can be ordered from surveillance websites and hidden in crafts to keep track of how your nanny or babysitter speaks to your children. Use mini voice recorders for crafts including plush toys, key chains, greeting cards and pillows.

Plush Toys

Mini voice recorders can be placed inside plush toys that you have handcrafted or bought. If crafting the plush toy yourself, include a section where you can slip the voice recorder. If using a store-bought plush toy, sew the recorder into the animal's paw. Some mini voice recorders are available with different animal sounds, such as those of a cat, dog, cow or frog, while standard voice recorders will record your voice reciting special phrases or names to use in the plush toy. Mini voice recorders can also be used in doll crafts.

Use mini voice recorders in pillow crafts. Record a special message and sew the recorder into a pocket on the pillow, or place the recorder behind a picture on a picture pillow. Record a lullaby for a children's pillow or favourite sayings in a small throw pillow. Place mini voice recorders in pillows to use as an April Fool's Day joke or similar prank. Make animal-shaped pillows and purchase animal sound mini recorders to use in the pillows. If you are skilful with needle and thread, embroider words or a saying onto the front of the pillow with felt or other suitable fabric, and then record those words or the saying on the mini voice recorder, which can then be sewn into a discreet place on the pillow.

Key Chains

Mini voice recorders are available in key-chain size and can be attached to any key-chain craft. Make Shrinky Dink animals and figures for keychains and glue the mini voice recorder to the back of the animal or figure. Shrinky Dinks are large, flexible sheets that you colour, then place in an oven to make them "shrink." Also try sewing felt designs or animals around a mini voice recorder to use for a key chain.

Other Craft Ideas

Make your own greeting cards with slots for inserting a mini voice recorder. Record funny messages or seasonal wishes. Another mini voice recorder craft idea is to build your own talking photo frame. While such frames are available on shopping websites such as Talking, which also sells talking cookie jars and snack bowls, you can also buy a plain frame, decorate it as you like and create an area on a discreet part of the frame to insert the mini voice recorder.
