Yanmar developed the first small horizontal diesel engine in 1933, and produced its first tractor in 1937. The agricultural division of the company began in 1961 and Yanmar Tractor, U.S.A, was established in 1979. Shortly after, Yanmar and John Deere joined forces, with Yanmar producing utility tractors for Deere. The company's 1700 model is a tractor model with 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive options.

Yanmar 1700

Produced in 1979, this agricultural tractor has a diesel Yanmar engine with natural aspiration and 2 cylinders. It is 20 horsepower, or 14.9kW. It has a gear-drive transmission with 8 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. It weighs 830 Kilogram and has a length of 98 inches, width of 44 inches and height of 68 inches.

Yanmar 1700D

The Yanmar 1700D was also produced in 1979 and is the 4-wheel drive model of the Yanmar 1700. The specifications for this model are the same, aside from the chassis. The chassis of the 1700 tractor model is 4-by-2, 2-wheel drive, while the chassis of the 1700D tractor is 4-by-4, 4-wheel drive.

The Yanmar 1702 was produced shortly after the 1700 and 1700D models, between 1982 and 1983. It is also an agricultural tractor with 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive models. It has a Yanmar diesel engine with an increase in cylinders and horsepower, at 3 and 21 respectively. It has a gear transmission, like the 1700 and 1700D models, and is heavier at 930 Kilogram. It is five inches longer, at 103 inches, and has a width of 44 inches and a height of 69 inches.

The Yanmar 1720 was produced in the same years as the 1702 and has both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive models. Like the above tractor, it has a 21 horsepower, 3-cylinder, diesel Yanmar engine. However, this model has a power-shift transmission as opposed to the gear transmissions of the 1700 and 1702 models. The length, width and height match the Yanmar 1720 but the weight has increased once again to 940 Kilogram.
