Fundraising provides an excellent way for young children to get involved in raising money to help their favourite charities. You'll want to choose fundraising activities that will promote excitement for the kids and that are easy for them to participate in. Pick several age appropriate fundraising ideas and let the participating children choose their favourite. Set up a plan, including a limited budget, and decide a date for the fundraiser event.

Garage Sale

Hold a garage sale and donate all profits to your project. This fundraising option helps people clean their homes of unwanted items. Have the children ask neighbours, teachers and church members for donations of their unwanted items for the garage sale. All funds raised from the garage sale go to the charity.

Dirty Chores for Charity

Offer to do chores for people in your area. The website suggests offering to do various chores. For instance, you can charge reasonable rates for walking the dog, raking leaves, doing dishes or taking out trash. Offer your services, present your price, and explain how you plan to donate your profits.

Can Drive

Have a can drive in your local area. You'll want to plan ahead of time to allow participants to save up their aluminium cans. This type of fundraiser works great and has very little up front cost. The group of children involved can alert their neighbours of the purpose of their project in advance. Arrange the collection date ahead of time and have a vehicle, preferably a truck, ready to cash the cans in.

Bake Sale or Lemonade Stand

Arrange a bake sale or set up a lemonade stand. Offer cakes, cookies and other baked goods that most people find hard to resist. Add sugarless or healthy options to appeal to a wider range of people. Lemonade stands also provide an easy, popular and profitable way for young children to raise money for their favourite charity.

Trike, Bike, or Walk-a-Thon

Organise a Trike, Bike or Walk-A-Thon. Choose the best event that will allow all children to participate. Schedule time ahead of the event for the kids to ask for pledges per mile covered. You'll want to choose a safe sidewalk or biking trail. Keep in mind the ages of the children involved when deciding the length of the event. Have pit stops step up for kids to get water as needed.

Talent Show

Enjoy a talent show by inviting children to sing, dance or perform whatever talent they enjoy doing. You will need a location that has a stage, such as school or church. Have parents help the children practice their routine. Sell tickets for family and friends to enjoy the talent show. You can also sell refreshments to add additional dollars for you fundraising project.

Penny Walk

Have a Penny Walk. This fundraising option offers a very inexpensive solution to raising money for your favourite charity. Set up large, attractive jars at local businesses. Attach a label asking for pennies to donate to your cause. Many people will gladly unload their unwanted pennies because they don't believe the coins carry much value, however the pennies will add up quickly. Some people will add other coins to your project as well.
