The 1940s was a decade of change in the United States, with major milestones such as World War II, women entering the workforce, and the rise of Hollywood. Centrepieces for a '40s theme party should reflect the visual style and themes of the decade.

Movie Stars

Framed photos of Hollywood stars popular during the 1940s can make nostalgic centrepieces. Stars of the time included Jimmy Stewart, Katharine Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Rita Hayworth and Humphrey Bogart. Another way to incorporate the stars into centrepieces is to print out their photos, tape them to sticks and include them in floral centrepieces.

Patriotic Centerpieces

World War II was a significant part of 40s history, so centrepieces could incorporate visual themes of war and patriotism. Start with a miniature tank or aeroplane and hot glue a United States flag to it. Drape dog tags over it and set it on a camouflage print piece of fabric.

Black and White

An elegant '40s theme party should have refined centrepieces that stay within a black-and-white colour scheme. Ideas include white floating candles, pearls, silver candlesticks, clear champagne bottles and black and white balloons.
