Stepper motors are brushless electronic motors. During operation, stepper motors use digital pulses to create a mechanical rotation of the shaft. Each rotation is divided into steps and each step requires a separate pulse. The stepper motor RH-7-1403 is used primarily for HP printers but can be used for other small electronics that require the use of a motor. There are three different specifications relating to the RH-7-1403: engine functions, protect functions and power settings.

Engine Functions

RH-7-1003 stepper motors are considered micro-step motors and use omegamentation to subdivide a full rotation or step The RH-7-1403 uses 14 different micro-steps settings that can be adjusted. The steps are responsible for the turning of the shaft. Micro-stepping divides one full step, or revolution, into 256 micro-steps, resulting in 50,200 steps per revolution. Correct positioning is essential in order to ensure that the motor runs with smooth motions and can move at a wide range of speeds. Micro-step motors have about 30 per cent less torque than full step motors. This enhances the smooth motion of the motor.

Protect Functions

There are a number of features that are built in to the RH-7-1403. These functions ensure a longer life of the motor and protect the motor from things like overheating. The low torque of the motor creates less heat, protecting the motor and the system board from potential overheating. The automatic sleep power reduction also aids in reducing the heat within the motor; this must be activated within the motor by setting DIP switch SW 4 to "Off."

The RH-7-1403 has a voltage protection that is activated by 80V of power or more. If the voltage amount is exceeded, it will activate an LED light. An LED light is also designed to light up if a power shortage between the coil and the ground occurs. These functions prevent power shortage and distortion of the system board

Power Settings

Power settings control the system by sending electrical signals to operate the stepper motor. Proper functioning of the motor is contingent upon using the right power settings. Power settings are controlled by DIP SW switches. There are eight different DIP switches. Each DIP switch has three different SW settings.
