Garages and sheds often serve as dumping grounds for miscellaneous tools and equipment that have no place to go inside your house. Organising your garden tools is an effective way to combat clutter and keep track of supplies. Wall storage units for garden tools are efficient options for keeping tools close at hand but out of the way of larger pieces of lawn care equipment.

Wall Tracks

Wall track units are simple to install and relatively inexpensive compared to larger, more comprehensive garden tool storage options. Single wall tracks are made of aluminium or steel and feature several large hooks for hanging both larger and small tools. Rakes, hoes and hand tools like trowels and shovels either hang from the hooks or lay across the distance between two hooks. Individual tracks are an ideal option if your shed or garage has only sporadic areas of free wall space. Individual wall tracks are also a creative option for storing garden hoses. Space two of the hooks on your wall track about 10 inches apart, and wrap the hose around each hook for fast, easy storage.

Wall Racks and Systems

Wall racks are typically larger versions of individual wall tracks. Instead of individual tracks, wall rack systems include several tiers of hooks attached to a large board that secures to the wall. More comprehensive systems might work as a storage shelf on the top of the rack for storing garden items like fertiliser or herbicides. Though wall rack systems take up more wall space than individual tracks, they tend to be more secure and provide more space for hanging tools than individual tracks. For the easiest access, store larger tools like rakes and shovels to one side or along the outer edges of the rack, and keep smaller items like hand tools in the centre or to the other edge. Separating the larger tools prevents you from knocking the smaller tools off the rack when you remove the items.

Metal Pegboards

Metal pegboards offer the highest degree of customisation when it comes to garden tool wall storage. Wall-mounted metal pegboards are fixed with a grid of closely spaced peg holes. The peg holes accept a variety of brackets, hooks and shelving units so that you can arrange the unit however you need to for the most efficient storage design. Secure one or two shelves at the top of the unit; place large hooks at opposite edges of the board so that large tools lay horizontally across the board rather than hanging vertically. Most metal pegboards are also magnetic, so you may not need hooks at all if your garden tools are small enough to support their own weight magnetically.
