Your Lexus RX300's style and power require Lexus service technicians to ensure peak performance, reliability, genuine Lexus parts and a warranty on the parts and service. Lexus service technicians have earned Lexus Commitment to Perfection Certificates and are best qualified to service your RX300 transmission. Lexus requires you to service your RX300 every six months or every 5,000 miles, and after driving on dusty or dirty roads or in ice and snow with temperatures below freezing.

RX300 Transmission

Your Lexus RX300 transmission includes your transaxle -- a combination of differential and axle -- your torque converter, clutch, transmission mounts, solenoids, engine control unit, seals and gaskets. The electronically controlled transmission includes sensors, an electronic control unit and actuators. The general Lexus warranty is 50,000 miles or 48 months, and the power train is under warranty for 72,000 miles or 72 months. Front-wheel-drive vehicles require servicing of the driveshaft, axles, hub, bearings, gaskets and seals. Rear-wheel-drive RX300s require servicing of the differential, driveshaft, axle carrier and case, seals and gaskets. All-wheel-drive vehicles direct power to the transaxle from the transfer case on top of the transmission. The transfer case oil must be checked every 30 days. Additionally, the coolant temperature sensor is wired to your transmission and must be checked.

Service Requirements

The Lexus Technical Information System (TIS) provides technical and diagnostic information to help you maintain your RX300 transmission. The TIS database is inexpensive -- £9 for 2 days or £35 per month in 2010. The TIS database contains diagnostics, information, bulletins, wiring diagrams, parts information, accessories and guides. The Lexus RX300 Warranty and Service Guide explains that you must replace the transmission fluid at 60,000 and 120,000 miles. When your RX300 has 100,000 miles on it, you should check the transfer case oil and the rear differential oil every 5,000 miles. From 120,000 miles, in addition to checking the transfer case and rear differential oil, you should check the transmission and all its components for leaks every 5,000 miles.

Overhaul RX300 Transmission

Drivetrain parts for the Lexus RX300 transmission system are available with directions and tips for overhauling the transmission. Included are O-rings, metal seals, gaskets, clutch kits, torque converters and other Lexus parts. Available are different kits for the Lexus RX300 U140E or F automatic transmission. The master overhaul kit, TRSK8900, cost £397 in 2010. The K1400-9 clutch kit cost £126, and the TRST064 torque converter cost £180 in 2010. The filter kit for the automatic transmission, ATK-218, cost £14.60 in 2010. Also available are a transmission oil coolant to attach to the radiator for £35, and an automatic transmission protection to open stuck valves for £9.
