Many people rely on the undertones in their skin to help choose clothing and make-up colours. It can also help you determine which hair colour may best suit you. Individuals with cool winter skin tones typically have paler skin with pink or rosy undertones. The skin may be porcelain, olive or deeper, and it is not uncommon for these skin tones to have issues with ruddiness. As a result, individuals with a cool winter skin tone typically look best in blue-based shades, which help make the skin appear more even and bright.

Ebony is a flattering hair colour for cool winter skin tones because it is a blue-based black shade. The deep ebony shade provides a lovely contrast to porcelain skin, and helps bring out the eyes. People often think of the fairy tale princess Snow White when they visualise the ebony-cool winter skin combination, so it usually has a very classic, feminine feel. Individuals with olive-toned skin may also find ebony a flattering hair shade option. The blue-black colour often creates an exotic and mysterious look with olive skin, which many individuals may appreciate.

Mink Brown

A deep shade of brown such as mink is another hair shade that complements cool winter complexions. Mink hair is a particularly good option for individuals with ruddy skin because the deep tones help counteract the redness and make skin appear more even. Adding some golden highlights to mink hair can also help warm up cool complexions that have a blue tint for a more attractive appearance.

Ash Blonde

Many cool winter skin toned individuals have naturally blonde hair, but it is usually in the ash blonde family. Because cool skin tones typically look best with blue-based colours, ashy or grey-toned shades of blonde can look very natural and flattering on individuals with a winter complexion. White or platinum blonde often has a tinge of blue as well, so it may be an attractive option if you would like a more extreme blonde look.

While red is generally thought of as a warm-toned hair colour, there are several shades that are actually blue-based and contrast nicely with cool winter complexions. Burgundy is one of the better options. The deepness of the shade may actually help counteract the ruddiness often found in cool, pale skin tones. Other red shades that may work for winter complexions include ruby, Bordeaux, cherry and garnet. Burgundy and similar shades particularly flatter medium-toned cool winter complexions.

While many individuals want to do away with the first sign of grey hair that appears, those with cool winter complexions can actually pull grey or silver for a distinguished look. The blue undertones in grey and silver tones complement cool complexions, and often make the skin appear rosy instead of ruddy. Individuals with a cool winter skin tone may opt to let their hair turn grey naturally, so they do not have to deal with the hassle of dying it on a regular basis to cover up their roots.
