Shimano is a manufacturer of bicycle components and fishing equipment based in Japan. One product it has been producing since the 1960s is the bicycle hub. A hub is the centre part of the bicycle wheel and its main parts are an axle, bearings and a hub shell. Shimano produces many variations of bike hubs. Three-speed Internal Hub

The DH-3N71 three-speed internal hub is of the quick release variety and is rim brake compatible. Its voltage is rated at 6 volts and is rated to put out 3 watts of power through the inner workings of the hub. The DH-3N71 is not roller brake compatible nor is it compatible with disc brakes or with a disc motor mount. The axle on the hub is quick-release and it is fitted with double contact sealing for improved strength. The materials on the hub shell are anodised aluminium and the spoke hole circle is 74mm wide.

Seven-speed Internal Hub

The Nexus SG-7R46 is the seven-speed internal hub by Shimano. The Nexus SG-7R46 hubs were designed for the biker that needs transportation in an urban environment where riding a bike is part of everyday life. All gear mechanisms and seals are engineered for consistent usage in a demanding environment. With the Nexus SG-7R46 hub, you can shift gears on the bike while pedalling, standing still or even coasting. The hub features a silent clutch and is compatible with virtually all brake systems, including roller brake, disc brake and standard brakes.

Eight-Speed Internal Hub

The SG-8C31 is the official eight-speed hub of the Shimano company. The eight-speed hub features a silent clutch, gear change support and a power shifting modulator. The SG-8C31 is compatible with coaster brakes but not with roller brakes. The shell of the hub is made of aluminium but has a painted exterior. Shimano claims the hub has a standard driving efficiency rating. The SG-8C31 has an axle length of 132mm and an over locknut length of 182mm.
