Hats can be used for much more than wearing on your head if you are trying to design unique decor or are displaying them for sale. Use a sense of art and whimsy mixed with a bit of creativity to bring unique display ideas to mind. Think outside of the box for the best ideas---outside of the hat box.

Go Beyond the Hat Rack

Hat racks are useful and available at many places, but they do not always show off hats if that is what you are looking to do. Consider using shelving to display hats so they can be easily viewed. Open shelving that allow hats to sit flat. If you are displaying hats in a retail setting, hats that are sitting side by side can be more easily compared by potential buyers. If you have a hat that is floppy like a beanie, stuff it with newspaper to give it some dimension and character. Also consider adding a book to an end of the shelf and hang one hat on it to draw attention to your display.

Get Creative

Think about creativity when designing your space or retail display. Your goal should be to draw attention to the display that you created. For instance, if you are selling top hats, you can have a great deal of fun with a magic theme. Sit the hat upside down and put a stuffed rabbit into it. Next to the hat, put a wand that can be purchased at a costume shop and a few decks of cards. If you are displaying hats for babies, consider putting them on colourful fruits and plants. Put a bonnet on a small pumpkin or a cowboy hat on a cactus.

Get Crafty

Use a straw hat covered in fabric ribbons, raffia ribbon material and silk flowers to make a wreath to display for fall or use the same idea to create a Christmas holiday wreath. If you plan to display hats at craft fairs or other retail environments, consider hanging them from ribbons to make them easy to see. Other craft ideas for hats include using them for vases for silk flowers and as gift baskets. For gift baskets, fill large hats with handmade items such as scarves and gourmet food items such as olives, crackers, cheese and bottles of wine. These baskets can be displayed and sold. The hats can later be reused.
