Overweight men who want to appear less heavy might have difficulty knowing what clothing is most flattering for their bodies. Finding trousers to fit is always a challenge when you are a big man, but there are specific types that will help you minimise your most troublesome areas.

Flat Front Panel

Men with extra weight, especially in the abdominal area, should avoid trousers with pleats or that bunch up in the front and cause them to appear heavier. Flat-panel trousers will give the stomach a smooth appearance.

Jeans or Khakis

Trousers made from thick materials, such as khaki or denim, are more likely to hide lumpy, fatty areas that may be prominent on fat men. Avoid polyester, cotton, knit or light fabrics to hide fat deposits more readily. In addition, make sure trousers are not too tight to avoid accentuating existing fat.

Custom Made

Getting the right fit can help fat men look thinner than their actual size. Bigger men might not fit correctly into trousers off the rack. Have trousers either custom made or tailored to conform correctly to your actual body measurements.

Darker Colors

Avoid lighter colours to help you appear less heavy. Trousers in black, brown and dark blue will be more flattering to a fat man than those in white, light beige or tan. Dark colours have a minimising effect.

Avoid Slim Jeans

Slimmer jeans might make your hips appear bigger because they increase the appearance of heavy hips and thighs. Try wearing boot cut or wide-leg trousers to give the hip and leg a more balanced look.
