An engagement is a special time in the life of a sister and is an event that will impact the entire family. The perfect engagement gift for a sister should reflect your congratulations as well as your wish for a happy life for her and your future brother-in-law.

Wedding Planning Basket

Since the engagement marks the beginning of the sometimes stressful wedding planning process, assemble a gift basket as an Engagement Survival Package. In the basket, place a wedding book and bridal magazines to help her in her planning as well as brochures of local bridal stores and wedding dress shops. Include in the basket a shirt or tank top that says "bride" as well as a candy ring pop for a humorous touch. A bottle of wine or champagne with a festively painted wine glass or champagne flute will round out the basket.

Photo Album

Collect photographs of the couple's dating courtship as well as childhood photos of the bride and the groom, if desired. Assemble the photos on the pages of a scrapbook or photo album to create a treasured keepsake chronicling childhood as well as the couple's courtship. Photos of the bride as a little girl playing dress up in princess costumes or as a bride would be ideal, if they are available. Call the album, "The Beginning," or "The Story of Us - Chapter One."

To help ease the stress of planning the wedding, help your engaged sister get a head start. This will be especially helpful for you and her if you are also in the bridal party or are the maid of honour, as you would likely be enlisted to help her with this task down the road. Collect sample menus and brochures of local wedding reception halls, add brochures from local cake, floral, catering and DJ vendors. Take photos of possible ceremony sites. Collect swatches from local bridal salons and add dress brochures as well. Add coloured tabs and divider labels to the binder to help complete the gift.
