Homemade Christmas gifts are a budget-friendly way to give customised, designer originals to family and friends. Finding presents for teenage girls can be particularly challenging, but you can create distinctive, handmade gifts to suit any personality. Even if you have no crafting experience, you can create gifts for the special people on your holiday list.

Most teenage girls enjoy a selection of fashion jewellery to accessorise their wardrobes. Tailor your homemade jewellery designs to fit the girl's individual style with metal charms, art glass pendants, and glass, wooden, ceramic or crystal beads. To make a necklace, thread a pendant to the centre of a length of beading cord, then thread the same number of beads onto both sides of the cord. Knot the cord around a clasp on each end and feed the excess cord back through the beads. This technique works well with elastic or satin beading cord; make sure to cover the end knots with jeweller's glue. You can also end a satin or leather cord necklace with spring coil ends or bead cones.

Make a homemade purse as a Christmas gift for a teenage girl that suits her individual style. Embellish a plain fabric purse with beads or make a new purse from fabric, an old pair of jeans, a place mat -- bamboo is nice -- or duct tape. For example, to make a purse from an old pair of jeans, cut the jeans horizontally at the top of the legs, Stitch the leg denim together along the cut line to make the body of the purse. Alternatively, you can just use a pant leg to make a long, narrow purse. Add a beaded strand, a ribbon or a strip of fabric to the top as a strap. Embellish the bag with beads, patches or small lengths of chain.

Treasure Box

Every teenage girl needs a special place to tuck away mementos; create a homemade treasure box to store special trinkets, jewellery, photos and letters. Paint or stain a wooden box. Most craft stores sell unfinished wood items in a variety of sizes and shapes. Decorate the outside of the box with acrylic paint techniques, rub-on vinyl stickers, flat-backed cabochons and rhinestones, or decoupaged images. Look for images to découpage from magazines and old calendars. Line the inside with felt or velvet, affixing the fabric to the wood with spray adhesive.

Knit or crochet a homemade scarf as a Christmas gift for a teenage girl. Select the colour and type of yarn that best suits her personality to create a one-of-a-kind accessory.
