In addition to its superlative range of home computers, Hewlett-Packard is also well known for its large range of business computers. The HPDX5150MT is part of the micro tower and small form factor business desktops. Each have similar specifications and are pre-loaded with Genuine Windows XP.

Both the small form factor and the micro tower versions have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core processor and Sempron processor with Hyper-Transport AMD Sempron 3000+. Processor speed is 1.80GHz, with 128Kb L2 cache and a 1600MHz front-side bus.

Operating System

All machines are equipped with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Alternatives are Windows Home Edition and Genuine Windows XP Professional X64 Edition. Other compatible systems are FreeDOS and SuSE Linux 9.3.


The HP dx5150 MT comes with 256 MB of on-board upgradeable RAM. Its maximum memory capacity is 4 GB with PC3200 DDR1 Synch DRAM memory type. There are four DIMM slots for expansion.

Hard Drive

The internal hard drive capacity is 40 GB with a speed of 7,200 RPM. The micro tower version has two 3.5-inch floppy drive bays, two 5.25 bays and two full-length 3.5-inch drive bays. The small form factor versions have three bays (one of each). Other hard drive capacities available are 80 GB, 160 GB and 250 GB SATA drives.

Networking and Connections

Both machines are equipped with a PCI wireless adaptor capability for wireless networking. There is an option for an Agere Hi-Speed 56k SoftModem, as well as an Integrated PCI-E Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet adaptor. The on-board network card is powered by an Intel Pro 1000 MT Gigabit network card.

Power Requirements

The micro tower version of the DX51050MT has a power supply of 250 Watts, with an ATX power supply. The small form factor version is 200 Watts. They each have power factor correctors ranging from 230V to 115V, with voltage operating ranges of 90 to 132-VAC or 180 to 264-VAC. Both models are ENERGY STAR-compliant.

Optical Drives and External Ports

Basic models are equipped with a 48X CD-ROM drive. Other options include a 48X-32X-48X CD-RW drive, a 16X-40X DVD-ROM drive and a 48X-32X-48X-16X combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. External ports include six USB 2.0, one microphone, one parallel port, one VGA, one DVI-D, audio in/out, one serial port, two PS/2 slots and one RJ-45. In the front of the machine are a USB 2.0 headphone socket and a microphone jack.

Peripherals and Dimensions

Standard models arrive with a PS/2-compliant mouse and keyboard. Monitors are purchased separately according to user requirements. The micro tower dimensions measure 14.5 x 6.88 x 16.5 inches and it weighs 10.8kg. The small form factor dimensions are 3.95 x 13.3 x 15.1 inches and weighs slightly less than the micro tower, at 9.53 Kilogram.
