10 places to get married

A wedding should be memorable and should reflect the personality and preferences of the bride and groom. One way to make it memorable is to choose a location that is unusual, distinctive, or has significant meaning to the bridal couple. From the normal to the unusual, there are many places to choose from and many ways to make it memorable.

Wedding Chapels

If your wedding is under 50 guests, you could select a wedding chapel. The setting is usually intimate and they often offer a package of services to make your day special. You get the feel of a church wedding with a smaller price tag, and a chapel may have more flexibility with your chosen date.

City Hall

You can probably find the Justice of the Peace in the same building where you buy your marriage license, and most are glad to officiate at weddings. Be aware that there may be a waiting period requirement between the date you buy the license and when the ceremony takes place, so be prepared to make two trips.

At Home

Plan a home wedding for something intimate. You may choose the home of a friend or relative. You save on the renting of space but you'll owe somebody big time. You may have the option of having it in the house or in the yard, depending on the time of year.

In the Park

Some local parks have covered areas you can rent. Costs are usually low and the availability of the picnic tables can make your reception easier. Covered areas have an advantage over open areas if the weather is uncooperative.

On the Beach

Choose your favourite beach and listen to the water lap on the shore as you share your vows. Clothing can be casual or more formal, depending on your preference. Weather can be uncooperative, so have a backup plan.

In the Air

If you are really flying high about your new life together, you might try getting married in a hot-air balloon, attached to a parachute, on a plane or in a helicopter. Your wedding party may only include the two of you and the person officiating, or you might be able to include a few more high flyers.

On a Boat

Cruise ships have wedding packages, so you can get married and honeymoon in the same place. Boat captains can legally officiate, although most cruises will also have a minister on board.

At the Zoo

Hang out with monkeys or take in the cool of the aquarium with penguins for attendants. Let your wild side loose in a whole different way.

In a Cave

Thunder Mountain Park, in Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri, has a Bridal Cave complete with many of the necessary components in their package deals. They will supply the cave, the minister, music and a lifetime pass to the cave. You will need to get a Missouri license to take advantage of this deal.

Bungee Jump

Item number 10, and perhaps the most bizarre of the Places to Get Married, is a bungee-jump wedding. This is an interesting way to take the plunge, but no doubt the bride won't be wearing a traditional dress for this wedding.
