Firming the skin and reducing the visible signs of ageing have become very popular in modern society. With new technology and advances in chemistry, formulas have been produced allowing wrinkles to be thinned out and delayed. Companies have begun to directly target men as well as women, and it is becoming more common for men to use products to reduce the signs of ageing.

Egg White

Cheap yet effective, egg white can be applied to help tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. This natural home remedy is simple to make. Egg whites are beaten lightly until they form soft peaks, applied to the skin and allowed to harden. The egg white can then be washed off with lukewarm water. For extra astringent qualities, lemon juice can be added to the egg whites.

Skin-Firming Lotion

According to Smart Skin Care, one of the best ways to firm skin is by using a lotion. However, some lotions do not work, and some may have side effects such as skin irritation and dryness. Skin-firming lotions work by returning moisture to the skin and restoring damaged cells. One of the most common ingredients in skin-firming lotions is niacinamide, commonly known as vitamin B-3. There are dozens of brands of skin-firming lotion on the market to choose from. Smart Skin Care has recommended Avon's Ultimate Anew Skin Lotion as a skin-firming lotion for several years.

Perhaps extreme by some standards, botox is an effective skin-firming product. Botulinum toxin type A is injected into the skin, causing it to constrict and tighten. This smooths out the face and reduces the appearance of wrinkles; however, it also reduces the elasticity of the skin needed to convey the range of facial expressions. This can give the effect of a "frozen" expression if botox is not applied carefully. The effects of botox are not permanent, and injections are needed at regular intervals to prevent the skin sagging and forming wrinkles.
