The PaperPort software is produced by Nuance. It works with a user's existing scanning equipment to make PDF or JPG documents that can then be viewed in more than 100 types of image viewing software. The software indexes the scanned pages in a way that simplifies searching for them in the user's computer by allowing searching for a term in the scanned document instead of just the title of the document. Despite the functionality, there have been some recurring problems reported with the PaperPort software.
Few PaperPort Editions Fully Supported on Microsoft Windows 7
Only PaperPort 11 and PaperPort 12 are fully supported on Microsoft 7. PaperPort 10 as well as all other previous versions of the software are not fully supported if they are being run on Microsoft Windows 7. This may cause functionality issues with the PaperPort software, such as crashing.
Little Compatibility With 64-Bit Operating Systems
Of all the editions of the PaperPort software, only PaperPort 11.1 is fully operational on 64-bit Windows Vista operating systems. PaperPort 12 or previous versions of the PaperPort software may work on 64-bit systems, but they will have reduced functionality and are not fully supported.
Launching Desktop Application Returns Error
When launching PaperPort or other Nuance programs on Windows XP or Vista computers, an error message that the product has stopped working and that Windows has stopped working may pop up. Disabling the Data Execution Prevention function through the Windows menu will usually end these errors.
Registration Reminder Continues to Display After Registration
After registering the PaperPort software or other Nuance software products, the user may still get a message that she needs to register. Most of the time this reminder occurs because registration was completed but higher security settings than the norm were engaged in the browser window when it was trying to disengage the reminder. This problem can either be done away with by selecting the "Do Not Remind Me Again" box or by disabling the registration code through the "Start" menu.
Docucom PDF Trial Watermark Appears on All New PDF Pages
When creating new PDF pages using the PaperPort software, a Docucom watermark may appear. When dealing with PaperPort 12, users can download a file from the Nuance website called the CoreLib.zip file. After it is downloaded and installed, the Docucom watermark should no longer appear. This will only work with PaperPort 12 and will not work with previous versions of the PaperPort software.
