OpenOffice Impress is a part of the OpenOffice suite, an open-source application suite that offers word processing, presentations, graphics, spreadsheets and databases. OpenOffice Impress is a presentation program similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. It was developed by Sun Microsystems, a subsidiary of Oracle.
Use Slide Masters
Slide masters allow you create presentations much faster by using a template rather than designing a slide from scratch each time. A slide master controls all other slides, and changes in it will affect the way all slides are presented. A slide master features a defined set of characteristics that include the background color, gradient, objects in the background, headers and footers and formatting of text. OpenOffice Impress comes with 28 pre-packaged slide masters.
Special Characters
It is possible to insert special characters, such as Greek or Latin letters. To insert a special character, click "Insert," then select "Special Character." OpenOffice Impress allows you to choose the font and subset of the character by selecting the desired options from the drop-down menus.
Speed Up Text Selection
OpenOffice Impress allows you to speed up the highlighting of text. Normally, to highlight some text inside a slide, you click and drag the cursor or use the arrows keys while holding the "Shift" button. However, if you press the "Shift" key and the "Ctrl" button, you'll be able to highlight text word-by-word instead of the normal character-by character, which speeds up text selection.
Picture From Scanner
Scanning and inserting pictures into slides of OpenOffice Impress is easy. Select "Insert," "Picture," "Scan" and "Request." The scanning will begin immediately.
