Storage Ideas for 1,000 CD Cases
Finding a place to store all of your CDs can take some ingenuity. (pile of many cds or DVDs image by Nikolay Okhitin from

If you have a significant amount of CDs, finding a place to store them can be daunting. They can take up a lot of space which, when you are living in tight quarters, can be a problem. Even if you don't listen to your music regularly, you'd like for it to be easily accessible. With a little creativity, you can find a solution to this problem.

Wine Boxes

Wooden wine boxes are an eclectic way to store your CDs and can be used to add decoration to your space. You can stack them in an interesting way or use them as end tables. Either way, they will hold a fair amount of CDs and add a sense of ambience to your living room or dining area. They could also add elegance to a bar or game room. Paint the boxes if you like or leave them unfinished for a more natural look.

Bookshelves can be a good storage option for many CDs. Line the CDs horizontally; this design allows you to grab them more easily than if they were stored stacked on top of one another. Decide if you want to categorise your CDs to make them easier to search through. You can order them alphabetically or by genre. For easy searching, make a master list of all of your music that you can refer to as needed.

Purchase a CD cabinet from a furniture or music store. These pieces can be both beautiful and functional; some even feature doors that open to reveal your music. Alternately, you can paint an old dresser and turn it into a funky CD holder. Place the CDs in the drawers and replace the drawer fronts with glass so that your CDs will be viewable. Be creative and save money by repurposing a piece that you already have.

Plastic Containers

If you don't care whether or not your CDs are viewable, buy plastic containers from a retailer and fill them with your CDs. These can be stored under a bed or in a closet for safety purposes and easy access. Such containers are generally inexpensive, meaning that it will be simple for you to purchase as many as you need.
