Among one of the most recognisable names in the computer industry today, Intel produces microprocessors for both desktop and mobile PCs. While much of the technology involved in these machines is interchangeable, there are some aspects that are not. Keeping this in mind, Intel designed their 945GM chipset strictly with laptops and netbooks in mind.

Processor Support

The Intel 945GM chipset supports the following Intel processors: the Celeron M, Core Solo, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo mobile. Low- and ultra-low voltage versions of these processors are also supported by the Intel 945GM chipset.

Front Side Bus

The Intel 945GM chipset supports front side bus speeds of 533 and 667MHz.


The Intel 945GM chipset includes both a PCI Express x16 and a PCI Express x1 interface. This allows users to customise their machine with expansion cards such as graphic and audio cards.


The on-board graphics of the Intel 945GM chipset are based on Intel's Gen 3.5 graphics engine. This features a core render clock speed of 250MHz. Support is included for TV-Out, Serial Digital Video Out, cathode ray tube and low-voltage differential signalling.


The Intel 945GM chipset is equipped with on-board audio that is provided by Intel High Definition Audio technology.


The Intel 945GM chipset provides users with a Serial ATA hard drive interface that operates at three gigabits per seconds (Gb/s). Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and Redundant Array of Independent Disk (RAID) technology are also supported.


The Intel 945GM chipset utilises DDR2 SDRAM for its random access memory (RAM) capabilities. Up to four GB of RAM is supported, which can be comprised from 1 GB, 512 MB or 256 MB chips. The Intel 945GM chipset supports RAM speeds of 400, 533 and 667MHz.
