Euchre Party Themes
Euchre is a social game, so it lends itself well to party themes. (playing cards tricks focuses image by Alexandr Shebanov from

Euchre is a popular card game played with four players in teams of two. Although it does involve strategy, euchre is at heart a social occasion. Trying to steal the deal, get away with table talk and engage in other subtle and not-so-subtle forms of cheating make euchre an ideal party game where you can pit your wits against friends old and new. Spice up your euchre parties even more by having a theme.

Lone Hand Prize Party

Celebrate skilful euchre risk-takers with a lone hand prize party. Rather than rewarding game winners, award a prize every time a player successfully goes it alone. The prize can be a small bouquet of flowers, a drink of some exquisite liqueur, a trinket or any other prize so long as it is small, fun and flashy. Keep a scorecard totalling the lone hands for the night. At the end of the evening, give whoever has the most successful lone hands a door prize such as a gift token, bottle of wine or humorous white elephant gift.

Casino Party

Give your euchre party a touch of class with a casino-themed party. Encourage your guests to dress up in evening wear and put on a soundtrack of classic crooners such as Louis Prima and Frank Sinatra. Put up casino-style decorations such as giant playing card cutouts and novelty dice. Serve delicate hors d'oeuvres and cocktails to your guests and turn the lights down for an elegant and intimate look. Place bets on the euchre games with poker chips, either using actual money or just playing for fun.

New Year's Eve Euchre Party

If your friends enjoy the game, any holiday can be the occasion for festivities with euchre as a central feature. For example, for a euchre New Year's Eve bash, decorate the house with "Happy New Year" banners, put on upbeat music and stash plenty of drinks, New Year's hats, party poppers and noisemakers. Set up euchre tables near the television so you can turn it on to watch the ball drop at midnight. Pour a champagne toast for your guests at midnight, then keep playing into the morning.
