The Compaq Presario R3000 is a laptop computer with a Pentium 4 processor, 15.4-inch screen and 30 GB hard drive. Although understanding these hardware specifications is important, one of the most critical aspects of a computer is the amount of system memory and its expandability. Learn the Compaq Presario R3000's memory specifications to get a better idea of what kind of software the notebook can run and what type of memory it uses.

Installed Memory

The Compaq Presario R3000 notebook comes with 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM. This is enough memory for basic computer tasks such as web browsing and word processing, but is not adequate for more advanced tasks like video editing or gaming.

Memory Type

The Presario R3000 uses DDR SDRAM at 333 megahertz (MHz). Note that DDR SDRAM computers work with memory modules of any speed, but not with other memory types such as DDR2. In addition, the memory can run no faster than the slowest module installed; memory speed in this system will never exceed 333MHz.

Maximum Memory

Like nearly all notebooks, the R3000 has two memory slots. You can install any size memory module up to 1024 MB in the second memory slot, for a total of 1280 MB RAM. The system is unable to recognise more memory than this.
